Atlanta mother, volunteer and fitness enthusiast, Mary Spiva, was diagnosed with an incurable bone spur in her neck at age 52 and told she could never run again. Her life changing exercise routine was limited to walking. “I have always believed self-confidence comes from within. The better we look, the better we feel. Not from designers high-priced clothes, but from being toned and shaped underneath.” A year after the diagnosis, Mary could not deny the signs of loose, saggy skin on her thighs and other problem areas. None of the shapewear products on the market answered Mary’s needs for lifting, not just compressing.  

Clearing out clothes in her Mother's closet, Mary retrieved a pair of compression knee braces her mother wore until retiring as a tennis teacher at 85 years. Envisioning a radical redesign of the knee braces into a highly customizable thigh shaper, a year later Firmés was founded and trademarked with an experienced and passionate development team of apparel professionals, manufacturers and potential customers, labeling the designs and fabrication as “revolutionary” for women.
